My Home Education Approach

I offer high-quality home education sessions in both Mathematics and Literacy for primary-aged children.

I offer high-quality home education sessions in Maths and Literacy for primary-aged pupils, available as online group sessions or personalised one-to-one lessons. Maths and Literacy are booked separately, so you can choose one or both depending on your child's needs.

Group sessions are structured in two age groups to ensure learning is matched to each child's stage of development:

  • Year 3 & Year 4 (ages 7–9)

  • Year 5 & Year 6 (ages 9–11)

Small-group teaching allows pupils to receive focused support while benefiting from discussion, collaboration, and shared learning experiences.

Mathematics

Maths sessions are delivered using the internationally recognised mastery approach, which focuses on developing deep understanding rather than simply teaching children to memorise procedures.

Pupils are taught a range of efficient strategies and are encouraged to explore more than one method when solving problems. This develops flexible thinking, mathematical confidence, and a genuine understanding of number and calculation.

Lessons place equal emphasis on:

  • Fluency in arithmetic

  • Mathematical reasoning

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Explaining and justifying answers

  • Developing resilience when tackling challenging tasks

Children are encouraged to think critically, discuss their ideas, and make connections across different areas of mathematics. By building strong foundations and deep conceptual understanding, pupils develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed both now and in future learning.

Literacy

Literacy sessions are interest-led. Topics and texts are chosen around each child's own passions and curiosity, helping to foster a genuine love of reading and writing.

Themes may include areas such as:

  • Minecraft

  • Anime

  • Ancient Civilisations

  • Football

  • Mythology

  • Science and Discovery

  • Adventure and Mystery

Pupils engage with high-quality texts rich in ambitious vocabulary, varied sentence structures, and sophisticated grammar. Every unit is carefully planned to ensure children achieve the literacy outcomes expected for their age — while remaining fully engaged in the learning process.

Reading and Language Development

Through reading, pupils are exposed to a wide range of genres and authors, developing their comprehension, vocabulary, and analytical skills. Lessons encourage children to discuss ideas, infer meaning, explore language choices, and develop a deeper understanding of how writers achieve particular effects.

Writing

Writing is taught as a process, with children receiving clear guidance and support at every stage. Pupils explore a variety of text types and writing styles, analysing both effective and less effective examples to understand what makes writing successful.

Throughout each piece of writing, children receive personalised, actionable feedback — creating a meaningful dialogue between teacher and pupil that allows them to refine their work, build confidence, and make sustained progress.

The aim is not only to improve technical accuracy, but to help every child find their own voice, develop their creativity, and genuinely enjoy writing.

A Personalised Approach

Every child learns differently. Whether your child joins a small group or works one-to-one, sessions are designed to be supportive, challenging, and responsive to their individual needs. Through regular written reports, careful assessment, and high-quality teaching, pupils are given the tools to make strong academic progress while developing confidence, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.

Above all, the goal is to create an environment where every child feels successful, motivated, and excited to learn.
